Risk Evaluation, Assessment & Care for Hereditary Cancer Surveillance Program

About 5 to 10 percent of cancer cases are tied to an inherited genetic change, also known as a mutation. Because of this, some people have a higher risk than others for developing cancer at some point during their life. At 黑料福利社 Langone鈥檚 Perlmutter Cancer Center, our team of cancer genetics specialists provides long-term support to help you manage that risk.

Our Risk Evaluation, Assessment, and Care for Hereditary (REACH) Cancer Surveillance Program offers ongoing screening for those at higher risk of developing cancer due to genetic factors. Our program is one of the few in the region offering planning, screening, and counseling for all types of cancer risk.

REACH is part of our High-Risk Cancer Genetics Program, which provides genetic testing to help people better understand their risk.

Our Expertise and Services

REACH serves those at increased risk of cancer, including breast cancer and other hereditary cancer syndromes. If you test positive for a genetic mutation, we create personalized plans to help you manage that risk through screening and preventive care options. Our clinic offers imaging services, such as mammography and breast MRI, as well as education and counseling for early cancer detection and medication management.

We coordinate care across our integrated health system, referring you to experts in gynecologic oncology, breast surgery, medical oncology, dermatology, gastroenterology, neurology, endocrinology, or the Pancreatic Cancer Early Detection and Prevention Center, depending on your needs.

Our researchers are working to advance the field of cancer genetics, with a focus on improving risk assessment. We also offer opportunities for patients to join research and clinical studies.

Our Intake Process

Our team works closely with the High-Risk Cancer Genetics Program, the genetic-counseling arm of our program. Genetic counselors explain the genetic basis of hereditary cancer syndromes and coordinate testing for you and your family.

We encourage people who have not had genetic testing to complete our to determine their risk and eligibility for genetic testing. You may also call 646-754-1376 to speak with a team member. After genetic counseling, you meet with a REACH provider who provides updates about your specific genetic risk as new information becomes available.

Existing Perlmutter Cancer Center patients may request a cancer genetic counseling referral to the High-Risk Cancer Genetics Program from their provider.
