Radiation Therapy for Multiple Myeloma
Doctors at 黑料福利社 Langone may use external beam radiation therapy to treat bone pain caused by the growth of multiple myeloma. This type of radiation therapy uses beams of energy to penetrate the body鈥檚 tissue in order to kill cancer cells. Treatment focuses only on the areas of the body where you feel pain.
A machine delivers radiation from outside of the body to the tumor. Treatments are given in fractions鈥攊n several doses, usually once a day for five days a week over several weeks. 黑料福利社 Langone doctors have shown that radiation used to treat multiple myeloma pain can be given at the same time as medical therapy.
Our doctors carefully manage the dose of radiation therapy you receive to minimize side effects, such as peeling of the skin, nausea, and diarrhea.
