Our team provides treatment for a wide variety of joint-related conditions.

Conditions We Treat

We treat injuries that affect the following areas of the body.

Knee Conditions

We provide treatment for cartilage disorders of the knee, including chondromalacia, traumatic and degenerative cartilage defects, osteochondral injuries, and osteoarthritis. We also treat knee sprains, strains, and tears, including injuries of the meniscus, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), and collateral ligaments (MCL and PCL), and posterolateral corner (PLC).

Additionally, we provide care for chronic meniscus deficiency, patella instability and maltracking, osteochondritis dissecans, knee malalignment, and other types of knee deformities.

Hip Conditions

We treat patients with a variety of hip conditions, including osteoarthritis of the hip, hip cartilage injuries, osteonecrosis, dislocation, instability, and hip labral tears.

We also provide treatment for femoral acetabular impingement and other disorders of the acetabulum, developmental and congenital hip dysplasia, snapping hip, and piriformis syndrome, more commonly known as compression of the sciatic nerve near the hip joint.

Shoulder and Elbow Conditions

We provide treatment for a wide range of injuries and disorders of the shoulder, including management of shoulder arthritis, rotator cuff tears, instability and labral tears, frozen shoulder, AC joint separations, proximal biceps disease, and thoracic outlet syndrome.

Additionally, we provide highly specialized care for both simple and complex elbow problems, including treatment of ruptured tendons of the distal biceps and triceps, elbow arthritis and cartilage disorders, tennis and golfer鈥檚 elbow, as well as surgery for elbow ligaments, such as a Tommy John surgery.

Multi-Joint Arthritis

We also provide treatment for all inflammatory arthritis conditions affecting more than one joint, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, and lupus.

Treatments We Offer

At the Joint Preservation Center, we use a range of nonsurgical and surgical treatments to relieve pain and restore joint function without the immediate need for a total joint replacement.

Nonsurgical Treatments

Depending on your particular condition, we may recommend oral nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), glucosamine, chondroitin sulfate, or topical anti-inflammatory gels and creams.

Corticosteroid, or cortisone, is a type of medication that greatly reduces inflammation and can be used to manage a variety of acute and chronic conditions. We perform injections with imaging, such as ultrasound or fluoroscopic guided techniques.

Other options include injecting hyaluronic acid鈥攖he substance that cushions and lubricates joints鈥攄irectly into the joint to help ease pain; platelet rich plasma therapy, which involves using a component of a patient鈥檚 own blood to heal damaged parts of the joint; stem cell therapy using a patient鈥檚 bone marrow or fat to deliver a patient鈥檚 own stem cells into arthritic or injured joints, providing long-lasting relief from pain; and physical therapy.

Alternative therapies are also available, such as acupuncture and Active Release Techniques庐 (ART).

Surgical Treatments

If you require surgery, we offer a number of advanced options. These include surgical procedures that transfer healthy cartilage to the site of a damaged or injured joint; meniscus repair and transplantation; a range of surgeries, called osteotomies, to realign or repair damage to the hip or knee; and partial joint replacement to preserve parts of the joint that are healthy. Among the newer options for treatment of knee arthritis is a procedure that involves implantation of a mechanical shock absorber under the skin but outside the knee joint. This reduces stress on the inner part of the knee鈥攚ithout having to perform surgery on the joint.
