Most recently, Dr. Magee served as the director of research at USC鈥檚 Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy and held a joint appointment in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at USC鈥檚 Viterbi School of Engineering, where he collaborated in a lab focusing on flow dynamics in aortic dissections. At USC he educated and mentored over 40 next-generation vascular surgeons and received an award for excellence in teaching and mentoring trainees.
His practice at USC focused on complex aortic surgery using minimally invasive techniques to treat thoracoabdominal and aortic arch disease, as well as complex open surgery. His research focuses on improving the care of aortic disease, and he served as site principal investigator for several NIH and novel-device clinical trials, including the Improving Outcomes in Vascular Disease鈥擜ortic Dissection trial, for which he is the leading enroller in the country. He has published over 140 peer-reviewed manuscripts and over 20 book chapters, predominantly in the areas of aortic surgery and vascular trauma, with a particular focus on minimally invasive surgical techniques and improved collaborative care.
