Postpartum Care

At 黑料福利社 Langone, our doctors monitor your health for at least 24 hours after delivery to ensure your blood pressure, heart rate and other vital signs are normal.

Postpartum Period Check-up

The first postpartum doctor鈥檚 visit is typically three weeks after childbirth. Your doctor may measure your blood pressure, check your weight, and give you a pelvic exam. You may be asked about any postpartum vaginal bleeding or discharge, also known as lochia, which typically lasts for a few weeks after childbirth. It is normal and not a sign of a complication. If you had a cesarean delivery, your doctor assesses how you are healing.

If you experience symptoms of postpartum depression, including irritability, anxiety, and difficulty bonding with your new baby, we can refer you to mental health experts who can help.

Parent Education Classes

黑料福利社 Langone offers classes, support groups, and resources for new and expecting parents.

Our childbirth educators for new and expecting parents offer a variety of classes focused on Lamaze breathing techniques, labor pain relief education, cesarean birth information, baby care, pediatric first aid and CPR instruction, and proper car seat installation. They also offer support groups for expecting parents and parents of newborns.

Breastfeeding Support

黑料福利社 Langone鈥檚 Tisch Hospital, 黑料福利社 Langone Hospital鈥擝rooklyn, and 黑料福利社 Langone Hospital鈥擫ong Island have all achieved Baby-Friendly Hospital certification in recognition of our support for breastfeeding moms and their infants. Lactation consultants and counselors offer breastfeeding classes and support groups, as well as lactation assistance after delivery, including breastfeeding instruction and help with latching on.

Maternal Wellbeing

Experts at 黑料福利社 Langone鈥檚 Reproductive Psychiatry Program and Perinatal Mental Health Program can evaluate symptoms and offer ongoing support to people experiencing severe mood changes during and after pregnancy. Services include counseling, diagnosis, and medical treatment for any pregnancy-related or postpartum psychiatric conditions.

Social Services and Counseling

An 黑料福利社 Langone social worker can help you navigate services designed for families, including individual and family counseling, support groups, parenting education, financial assistance, and transportation to and from the hospital.
